She follows him home. Once again he does nothing. He doesn’t glance back at her, he turns his back and just keeps on walking. He doesn’t say anything to her, he doesn’t look at her at any time… Well, except for when she catches him staring at her only to realize that he is looking straight through her. She keeps her distance and she keeps quiet. There is no point in doing otherwise. He will not acknowledge her existence in any way humanly possible anyhow. He has a pained expression on his face which bothers her to the point of insanity, but she knows very well that she can do absolutely nothing about that. She stretches her arm towards his face, trying to lightly touch his cheek and a part of a lower jaw…but it’s futile…she should better stop.
In the past he spoke to her. Even in moments of his greatest pain, torment and suffering, he would still talk to her. He would launch into a long and tedious monologues, but she listened. It’s not as if she had something better to do, after all, he was her first and her last love – her love at first sight, the love and light of her life – her soulmate.
They arrive home. He puts a key into the lock, turns it two times and then lets himself in. She still follows, still quiet, still at a distance. He turns to close the door and goes straight to the home-made bar for a shot of whiskey. Strong stuff. Good year. Wasted… She sits across the table, looking at him with eyes full of darkness. She wants to cry, but she can’t. He turns the radio on; more for the background music and the breaking of the silence than anything else really. He gulps up his whiskey and then goes straight to bed.
His sleeping face is calm and gentle except for that one line across his forehead that has started to form because of his constant frowning. She has always considered it a bad habit of his. The place between the sheets seems almost too inviting and provocative for her not to come closer, to break the distance. Black silk sheets, rustling with slow movements of his muscles… Damn…he’s sexy. She comes closer, sits on the floor and places her head on his forearm.
A thin gush of iced breath comes straight from his mouth as he breathes out the previously taken in air. She thinks:”Yes, just like this… We used to sleep just like this…” then she comes even closer, kisses him on the lips leaving a chill on the pink skin and with a stroke of his almond hair – disappears. “Ellenore…” he breathes out as a single tear slides over his cheekbone just to be drowned into the blackness of the silk…just like her.
