He watches her walking away and it feels to him as if she has done that a million times before. “Cindy! No! Don’t go!” he frantically calls after her. He reaches for her arm, his fingers inching closer and closer, and just as he is on the verge of touching her…
Gasp! He wakes up drenched in sweaty despair, his breath visible in the sharp air cocooned by the darkness of the night. It hurts. Everything hurts. His muscles are aching, but that’s nothing compared to the abandonment that immediately commences its prompt, utter and irrevocable demise of the center of his being. The earth-shattering agony seems to be coming straight from the depths of his chest. “Why did she have to leave? Why did she have to love another? Why? Why?! WHY?!?”
Gasp! He wakes up cocooned in loneliness and alienation. Everything is white. White light, white ceiling, white walls with white padding. “Oh, right… I had a nervous breakdown after…” he whispers on an exhale.
“Well, that’s what loneliness does to you.” The white room whispers back.
