Determination

03rd Aug, 2016

Two little words were all that it took for her not to proceed with her plan, the plan she meticulously thought out to the very last detail.

She was tired of always being alone coiled up in that big, sterile, empty house. White walls, white couch, black marble floor, black kitchen, white rug, black and white photos. A smidge of colour embodied in the plastic flowers she had had in an empty vase for quite some time now. Purple orchids – her favourite. She had a suitcase ready, a plane ticket to a country she always had an inclination towards visiting and every piece of the puzzle in place. He wasn’t mean, he wasn’t violent, he was just endlessly absent and unaware. She grudgingly thought that even if she were to leave the ticket out in the open he would not care. Would he even notice? Probably not. She left a hint here and there, but never managed to get any reaction out of him so she just stopped trying.

Today was the day. She would make him dinner and then go away forever, out that door and out of his life. She went into the kitchen, took the roast out of the oven, then went to their room, pulled out her trench coat and picked up the already packed suitcase. While she was passing the kitchen door in the hallway on her way to the front door she noticed something odd about the kitchen itself, she caught a wrong colour out of the corner of her eye. Red. She put the suitcase down and inched carefully towards the vase which was now filled with water and saw that it contained a luxurious bouquet of two dozen red roses. She knew they were real because of the pleasant fragrance they were giving off.

Two little words were enough for her not to fulfill her preparations. “Don’t go.” He said.
