A snowflake wandered through the air wondering what love is. It hadn’t been here for long, but it thought long enough. It knew of abstract nouns, emotions, to be precise, it knew of life and death as well, uplift and sorrow, but love it knew nothing of.
As it rode in the saddle of the wind, it saw a tiny girl with green eyes running around catching snowflake’s siblings with her mittens. The girl was alone and her dark, silky hair stood out amongst the snow cocooned scenery. The same way the girl’s raven hair stood out in the whiteness, the black jacket stood out. Big, puffy, black, winter jacket. It was creeping up behind the tiny girl, the snowflake knew it was malicious. The way it was slow, careful, with cautious, silent shoes to support it. The black jacket was almost diligent in its creeping and consequent creepiness.
The snowflake felt a new emotion. Fear. It feared for the little green-eyed girl. The black jacket was approaching…closer…and closer…and closer. The snowflake started panicking. Poor little girl, she will be taken by the beast! The girl was carefree and oblivious, her giggles and laughter resounding among the trees. The jacket was still approaching, the snowflake was panicking profusely, and then it happened. It made a decision, it made its mind and took action immediately, no second thoughts, no turning back. It rode down, swirling through the air, waiting for the opportune moment and suddenly and unexpectedly turned! Turned, stinging the cold-blue, vicious eye like a tiny shard of glass. The jacket stopped, half-opened mouth with yellow teeth yelped, the girl turned, screamed and ran away, and our little crystallized icy hero had not died in vain…
The snowflake found the meaning of love without even trying to find it, and died in the name of that glorious vehemence.
