The Looking Glass

It’s not fair you mirroring everything I do, you know?
When I yawn, so do you
Wag my tail, you do too
It’s fascinating how precise
You can be. Oh, alas!
I meow in woe,
Are you a friend or are you a foe?

When I try to sniff you there’s this device
Which stops me somehow, it’s not nice.
You can say I’m puzzled, bewildered even
I cry for help from my human, Steven.
He comes, then laughs and goes,
Without helping. I’ll scratch his nose.

And here I am, alone with you
In this shiny frame which gives no clue.
Over and again you mimic me.
I’ll leave now and pretend not to see.
But there’s something enchanting in the way you do,
Without a hitch, everything I do too.
Thinking about it, maybe I’ll let you stay,
We could sometimes even play…
