Survive

17th Sep, 2020

They puncture my core,
Wash me ashore,
Cut away my fins,
And laugh at their sins.
My long hair they chop,
I scream for them to stop,
My voice falls on deaf ears,
It’s been like that for years.

They throw me in a cage,
Snicker at my rage,
Howl at my scorn,
At my face forlorn.
My songs they take,
Make them something fake,
And mock me again,
Worthless and vain.

My ancestors squeal
For they see me kneel
Before those who enslave,
They turn in their blue grave.
I feel their ghostly eyes,
How they chastise,
Call me unfit…
But I can take it.
