Duty

Close your eyes, tell me what you see…
Is there any colour in that darkness?
A trace of red, a speck of green,
A little bit of pale-blue, like the sea…
Imagine all of them in their fairness.

Red lips, a wild cherry.
Green gown, grass bathed in the sun.
Blue eyes with a hint of rosemary.
Those are the virtues of your betrothed one.

But why are you so blue?
Why those sad eyes?
She is as sweet as the morning dew,
Graceful, like hundreds of butterflies,
She is the fairest of them all and ever since
The queen of beauty,
But you don’t love her, my prince.
Well, that’s pity…

You love your Dark Enchantress.
She came to you in your dream.
With her raven hair, a fiery temptress,
With chestnut eyes and honey-dripping lips agleam.
On your heart she has made an incision,
And can thus make you burst into tears,
‘Cause she’s a once in a lifetime vision.
She brings you fears…

The fear of losing her bewitching voice,
Her dazzling side.
The fear that she is just a dream,
That in the morning she will hide.

Then you wake up, glance over all coy,
And see her between your sheets.
Well, my prince, you should be leaping with joy.
You should dance all over your kingdom’s streets.
Because you’ve got it all…

You have tasted her sweetness,
You have felt her fire.
You have seen her smile,
You have trembled with desire.

Now your duty calls,
And you must obey.
Even if it entails your falls,
Even if it only brings pain…
